Thomas McAteer is the Executive Vice President of Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. (STS), where he oversees human resources, management development, risk management, public relations strategies and external communications. Tom is also responsible for regulatory affairs and transit strategies

Known for his strong leadership and focus on excellence, Tom brings invaluable background and experience in business and communications that significantly contributes to the ongoing success of STS.

Prior to joining STS, Tom served as Senior Vice President at Aetna, CEO and President of Vytra Health Plans, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Brand Management at Emblem Health (formerly HIP), and he was an executive at the MTA/LIRR.  In addition, Tom was Chief Deputy County Executive for Suffolk County for five years.

Committed to creating positive change in his community, Tom is actively involved in supporting STS’s numerous charitable endeavors including Good Samaritan Foundation, Partners Advancing West Islip Students Foundation (PAWS), and the Arthritis Foundation.

Tom earned a Master’s degree in business from Hofstra University and is on the Board of Directors for LIPA and Lakeland Industries. He currently resides in West Islip, NY with his wife.
