The New York School Bus Contractors Association presented Suffolk Transportation Service school bus driver, Bob Gray, with its industry-wide Employee of the Month Award for March for his outstanding record of service and perfect safety record.  Each month the NYSBCA recognizes a member’s employee, including drivers, matrons, mechanics, and office staff, who demonstrate an unmatched commitment to student safety and exceptional service to their school districts, communities, and companies.

Bob earned this prestigious recognition for maintaining a perfect safety record for all of his 13-years as a school bus driver for Suffolk Transportation Service and his unmatched commitment to the school districts and community that he serves.

“Bob Gray epitomizes the special qualities our member companies look for when hiring a school bus driver and we are thrilled to present him with our Industry-wide Employee of the Month award for March,” said New York School Bus Contractors Association President Bree Allen.  “As a retired New York City firefighter, Bob knows from experience how important safety is and that is something he demonstrates every time he transports school children in Suffolk County.  His tireless dedication to those students, school districts, and the community he serves is a shining example for all of us.”

Bob started out his career in pupil transportation as a part-time school bus driver for Suffolk Transportation Service three years before his retirement as a New York City firefighter.  He then took on the role as a full-time cover driver and was quickly named to the company’s “A Team”, a select group of drivers responsible for special driving assignments including the transportation of special needs children to sporting events and other trips.  Bob also earned the Extra Mile Award for his outstanding service to the company and his community.

While Bob enjoys the variety of his routes, his co-workers, and the children he brings to school each day, he says the thing he enjoys most about being a school bus driver is when he can give back to the community.  One example of many is Bob’s involvement with the United Way’s “Stuff a Bus” program which helps provide and deliver new school supplies to students from low-income families.
